‘Displacement’ is the motto of the Mislata Miquel Navarro Biennial for 2024, curated by Eduardo García-Nieto.
Displacement in physics is the change of position of an object from an initial point to a final point. To understand this definition, a reference structure is required that is fixed; normally a coordinate system that assumes this order of things. However, the truth is that everything changes, all the time, and our position depends on a reference that is never so stable. Therefore, despite the absence of change of position, because we are time and life, in our perception of reality there is always a displacement.
Now, this sensation of displacement is now experienced intensely. Riding the global turbocapitalism car, acceleration and speed continually drag us towards the uncertain and the unknown: history changes every second and manifests the absence of a place to belong. Perhaps the most revolutionary thing, the most pertinent resistance to this force that pushes us without choice, is to force our stillness, to observe carefully.
Based on the interpretation of this concept on the motto of the Biennale, the graphic solution recreates the resistance of fixed elements on these inertias of displacement. From the beginning, the answers were sought in nature, among the referential movement of the planets or their eclipses of light, the marine currents that drag the algae or the schools of fish and the growth of the shoots of a garden and its pink flowers. From abstraction, colors and shapes emphasize this idea.
