'Sobre l'art' is the artistic project of the artist Reyes Pe for this year's Falla Alfara del Patriarca - Periodista Gil Sumbiela. Driven by her first-person experience of economic precariousness and intellectually supported by readings by authors such as Remedios Zafra, the artist proposes a scathing critique of the precariousness that lies in the art and culture sectors. This criticism is represented by the construction of a huge plate of rice and tomato, a very economical meal in relation to others and which the artist is forced to eat very frequently. A fun object that is ultimately a call for help... Fried tomato or spilled blood?
This discursive line is reflected throughout the book on a graphic level, since it is born from the same palette as the falla: white of the rice and red of the fried tomato.
Firstly, these colors are already manifested on the cover with the usual wavy shapes with which the artist works. Furthermore, on this cover there are also two textures and materials, as in the falla itself, the tomato has been given volume by applying 3D UVI varnish, which goes over the white of the rice and gives it a very impressive appearance. On the other hand, regarding the interior composition, the formalization of these drops also composes the interior of the book, and the texts in red ink fall from the top. The typography used to resolve the titles refers to the grain of rice. Finally, even when it came to solving the binding system itself, sewn with visible thread, the sensitivity was taken to ensure that it accompanied the chromatic grammar. The central sheet where this thread manifests itself is the sketch of the falla.
In short, the layout and design of the book has been carried out with a strong conceptual presence that accompanies the story of the falla in the aesthetic experience of reading and articulates the set of graphic and printing elements that resolve the design.
